Artist Statement
Farmers and ranchers in
the West have vast areas within their land holdings to store or discard
old and out of date machinery. Although these mechanical graveyards
create an unsightly blight on the landscape, they do represent a
scattered visual history of farming equipment design that evolved over
the past century. A creative artist with a critical eye and a good
camera can discover these mechanical cemeteries as material for
photographic creations taken totally out of context to the reality of
the original mechanism. New translations redefine and refresh the
metallic shapes within an abstract format while hinting, through
fragments of machinery parts, that evidence of the implement is still
present to the observer in the cropped image. |
